But you know what they say "lean and mean" So I think I blew my shit and I took a compression test buit I don't know the compression numbers. I got 115 on left and 125lbs on right HELP My quad with 22cc's is 125 even on both cylinders. I've seen worse, but what I don't like is the 10lb. difference. If they were both 115, I'd say you'll probably be wanting a top end soon, but you can wait until they're closer to 100. If there is that much difference, you might go ahead and do a top end kit. jag706 Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 Alright guys, sorry for the typos and lack of info. I did a quicky since am still at my job with the risk of gettin caught. I wrote to you guys a while ago when i was jetting my shee and the advice was really helpful. Now the problem is if only I would have folled it instead of mixing up my own jet combo. It was running great the first couple of times I took her out -only for 20 minutes at a time- and then came that one day. I took her down the block after a brief warm up and she was hauling ass After the second block I hit her again rounding a corner and the it happen She started to stutter and ping badly as it was very audible beneath me. When I got home a block down she wouldn't rev clean. She was heating up pretty fast as I tried to make her clear but she refused. She starts up on the third kick when cold but i try to rev her up it starts all over. At this point she will idle fine but as soon as I pull the choke out the slightest she dies. From here on she turns into a masochist as she appears to like all the more kicks just to start her, but only when warm. I know am asking you to read alot but when writing I have to tell you everything so that you can best help me. Thanx Quote
superchicken Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 have you pulled the plugs to see what they look like?pinging is not a good sign.possible dentonation due to being lean or a piston broke and was banging around. Quote
jag706 Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 Yes I did. Then I installed new plugs and when I pulled the new plugs out after running it, they didn't have any sign of carbon on them. The plugs were a little to clean in color in my opinion. Keep in mind that I didn't perform a pug chop but from the outside I thought I didn't have to. I am still wondering if my compression reading is a little out of wack. A friend of mine told me based on my jetting that i may have blown my rings, or worst case scenario blown my whole top end. So what is a good compression reading and if mine is good what else can be wrong? Quote
sredish Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Stock compression at sea level is about 120 to 125. As you go up in elevation, subtract some off of that. Quote
superchicken Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 well what are your mods and your jetting?when you checked your compression did you hold the throttle wide open?if not try it again and make sure you turn the kill switch off. Quote
jag706 Posted September 18, 2004 Author Report Posted September 18, 2004 I don't have any major mods just bolt ons: -K&N air filter in stock air box(-) snorkel -DG exhaust system -Boost bottle -Dyno Jet #27.5 pilots and 270 mains with the jet kit needle on 3rd clip The jetting is were my buddy says I went wrong. He said that I starved the engine and that I should have listen to the directions.Maybe this is true and he did say to take a compression test but you guys said that the numbers aren't that bad but that 115lbs. on the left and 125lbs on the right is freakin' mind bogglin. I guess am gonna take it apart this week and see what it looks like . YIKES My buddy says stop with the counseling online but hey I believe in da brothahood P.S the dude I bought it from in May claims the motor only had 2 hours on it but he could be jerkin' me around Quote
superchicken Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 your jetting sounds close for sea level,i ran pretty much the same jetting last year with fattys and rad valves.it could be like you said the guy you bought it from jerked you off.the different comp.#'s could be one cylinder went south, happens often,or you goofed on the comp. test.did you use the hand held kind you stick in the spark plug hole,or the kind you thread in?the first type is a bitch with out an extra set of hands. jag706 Posted September 20, 2004 Author Report Posted September 20, 2004 ClUcK, cLuCk, that's good to hear SUPERCHICKEN No seriously I am glad to hear that your jetting was the same as mine. I thought that because of the difference in needles (stock vs. Dynojet) that might of been the culprit , also using the 3rd clip insted of the 4th, and the 270 instead of the 280 main jet I used. I just don't understand how one second she is running beautiful and the next second she is pinging, heating up, and don't wanna run ? I guess I am trying to keep hope alive but I really know deep down inside that I blew my shit Oh by the way I used the compression tester that gets screwed in and yes I did the test 3 times with the gas wide open and got the same results everytime.
