XTShee Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Hey, First one is are CDI's diffrent between the years? Cause I got a new one and the connections are diffrent 1 fits but the other has 5 wires coming from it, where the one on my bike only has four. Next is my bike will start when cold but when hot it wont. It will however crash start as easy as a 2 dollar hooker wether its hot or cold. I investigated a little further tonight and 1 side of the coil seems to spark alot better than the other which at times has nothing. When rideing both cylinders seem to fire fine as my bike fuckin hauls ass and dose not miss at all. I have swapped for another coil and get the same results. I have also swapped stators and it makes no diffrence. Any Ideas? Quote
Felonious_Monk Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I would start out with first doing a compression check. If it is easy to "crash start" like you said, and hard to kick start, I would tend to believe that it is not getting enough compression just by you kicking it over.....that is why it starts right up once "jumped"........?? Sorry I did nto answer the question you asked, but a quick compression test could rule out alot before you go spending money on new coils, stators, and CDI's....... Good Luck, Monk Quote
BenBB Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Yes the CDI's are different but you can still use a 5-wire on a 4-wire system, you just hafta take the pins out of the connectors and disregard the 5th one (don't remember what it goes to but it will run fine without it). More on that in the FAQ if you want to check it. I agree with Monk on the compression thing, but it almost sounds more like a pilot jetting issue than electrical, at least since you said you swapped stators (weak spark from kicking compared to a bump start turning the motor over faster). If you're sure it's not jetting or compression, and you have another CDI to try, it's worth a shot. Good luck. Quote
XTShee Posted September 15, 2004 Author Report Posted September 15, 2004 Compression is bang on 180 in both cylinders, Ben for some reason I dont think it is jetting, becasue when I check for spark I dont get any when its hot and it should spark regardless of weather its rich or not I will give the FAQ another read and give swapping the cdi's a shot, thanx for the help guys Quote
sredish Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 it should spark regardless of weather its rich or not unless the plug's fouled. Quote
XTShee Posted September 15, 2004 Author Report Posted September 15, 2004 (edited) it should spark regardless of weather its rich or not unless the plug's fouled. Yeah Yeah Yeah, Bugger you guys, I think your right on the money as usall Simplest prob and I was lookin everywhere but. I just put in some new plugs, started it up and let it run for 5 min. Killed it then tryed to start it again. Wouldnt go............ Put in new plugs, kicked it and ringgg a dingggg dingggg dingggg now dont I feel stupid Edited September 15, 2004 by XTShee Quote

Forcefed Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Right on...Ben is on the money. The reason it starts good cold and has a tendancy to foul a plug on the bottom end (pilot circuit) when warm is due to the fact that a motor has a tendancy to run a little richer once there is a certain amount of "heat soak" in the metal. Try turning your pilot adjustment screws in the "lean" direction about 1/2-1 full turn....all will then be well, and you should not have to worry about fouling another plug if you spend much time on the pilot circuit.
