rebelbanshee2 Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I was trying to get a bent frame switched over saturday night so i could ride labor day, when took the swinger off along with the shock and everything else i kind grabbed the shock to help move the swinger and the body just pulled off the shaft and all the oil came out!! It leaked no oil untill the thing pulled apart I did notice I could lift up on the back of the quad more than before after the crash that bent my frame and im sure had something to do with my shock. I called Elka to get it put back together and aside from not being able to understand those darn french candians, they had no idea why it would just come aprt like that. So from my semi incomprehensible conversation with them i inadvertantly found out the Quad Shop services Elkas. So i called them, becasue i understand southern accents MUCH better than French accents and asked them, the guy asked me if the shaft broke, i said no, he had no idea either. So my shock is off to be re-done, hopefully I can find out how it came apart like that. There were threads on the end of the shaft, but they were undamaged and no pieces came out off the shock either.... On a side note, everyone says to talk to Eric at Elka and he'll hook you up...I seriously couldnt understand anyone I talked to...Thank goodness for America operated service centers... Quote
2Smoker Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 the only time I ever seen a shock fall apart was when my friend was wheelieing his brand new honda 350 4x4 last year and somehow the shock just came apart (the top piece and the bottom piece seperated) in midair and when he landed it never went back into place and the shock folded. it was replaced under warranty. good luck with yours Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 If there were threads un-damaged on the end of the piston rod, chances are the base valve came loose from the shaft. Although I've never heard of this happening on a Banshee rear shock it's an easy fix - if that is what happened... Quote
