deathmetal5150 Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 (edited) Hey guys got a couple questions for ya. New banshee owner here, very proud of it, just love the bike. Ive went from riding 4 strokes all my life to this, and never wanna look back! Anyways, the bike i just got is a 98 banshee, and it looks like the day it came off the showroom floor. Guy says he has about 25 hours on it. All stock other than some cosmetics. I've taken it out a few times now, and just wanted to get some things answered to help ease my mind. At first, had a little bit of trouble starting it, could possibly be that the bike has been sitting for many months now. It idles very, very low so i may need to turn it up. For some reason it takes a good 6 kicks to get it going. I couldnt figure out why it was doing this, but when i held the throttle wide open, wham, started right up. Today i didnt necessarily need to do that, just a slight tap on the throttle and there we go. Anyways, just wondering if you guys had this happen as well. Jets are bumped up just a little bit because it was mostly run in cold weather. When i FIRST took out the bike, there was very little power going on with it. Changed the plugs, and totally different bike, i keep an eye on the plugs, its set perfectly, not too rich nor too lean, just right. Anyways, when starting out on the low end, it will do somewhat of a stutter, then once taken up to a certain rev, it will completely smooth out. I just wanted to see if having it at low RPM would cause it to have that effect, the effect is more so like being choked up a good bit, then wham kicks right in smoothens out and goes like hell. Everything checks out super clean. I didnt gap those plugs, however, im not sure if that would make such a difference? Maybe that small stutter on low rpms is very normal for a banshee, my first one, so take it easy on me I was going to do a compression check, but not exactly sure how to go about that. Where should i be at on psi with an all stock motor? I presume everything to be fine, but its always good to check just in case. I run 32:1 yamalube, works great. Let me know what you think and any help is appreciated! Edited August 28, 2004 by deathmetal5150 Quote
itsmyforte Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 stock compression close to sea level is around 120-130 if it studders on the low end adjust the air/fuel screww on each carb, sounds like it may be a bit rich. start with the screws around 2 turns out and go from there. Quote
