mrmatt Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Is the clutch cover gasket necessary? I thought about using Yamabond when I reinstalled the clutch cover. But I noticed that the gasket includes a lot more material that what is necessary to seal the joint. I assume that the extra material acts as baffles. Does anyone run w/out a gasket? What would it hurt? Quote
racer Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 ive thought about that too, but i decided to go with the gasket. im sure itd leak since the edges where the case meets the cover isnt thick enough for a decent bead of y-bond to be laid down. Quote
fixitrod Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 (edited) Matt, I've never run a gasket. Hell, I didn't know one was suppose to go in there until a while ago. It didn't have one when I bought it. I just use the yamabond or rtv stuff. I usually use the copper high temp stuff but have used regular high temp silicone and had no issues. I learned it from a transmission shop. They don't use gaskets on their pans and have very few that ever leak. Same concept. Edited August 6, 2004 by fixitrod Quote
