XTShee Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Hey guys, I was planning on putting a gsx550 in my roller but have since found that it is to tall. So I have been looking around and found a guy that is wreaking 3 RZ350 bikes. Apart from all the wiring crap do these pretty much just bolt in to the existing mounts? I am planning on trying to get the whole running RZ road bike so I can prety much just unplug unbolt and drop it in to the banshee frame. Any thing I should watch for or any problems I will come across? Quote
J.J. Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Bump Common guys! I am also interested in doing this. Calling Ben, Meat, Minkia... We all know that the exhausts are flanged, what else? Quote
XTShee Posted August 3, 2004 Author Report Posted August 3, 2004 what do you mean the exhausts are flanged? Can you still use banshee exhausts? Also do you use the RZ carbs or banshee? Any info is good info Quote
J.J. Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 what do you mean the exhausts are flanged? Can you still use banshee exhausts? The exhausts on an RZ bolt to the cylinders, it's not too difficult to manufacture an adapter to fit banshee pipes, however, you end up with clearance issues, exhaust against the frame. Depends on which pipe you're using though, not too sure... Need to get the others to chime in here, Meat was doing it, but it's all quiet there now, BenBB's is in progress and I know Minkia had an RZshee, hopefully they'll reply... I'm thinking the same thing here, buy a running bike and drop the whole sheebang in there, no issues with cdi's, flywheels and whatnot. Quote
Meat Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 (edited) easy drop in procedure. The mounts are identical, everything just swaps out with no surprises. The only fabbing you'll need to do is for the aformentioned exhaust flanges. you'll need complete rz electrical system componets, like the CDI, PowerValve controller, stator and flywheel, PV servo motor.... you could run Banshee electronics but..... your powervalves wont operate. And thats the whole point.... having powervalves. Edited August 4, 2004 by Meat Quote
J.J. Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Thanx Meat, btw what's happening with your's??? Quote
Meat Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 (edited) J, Im serious when I say Im broke..... and thats the only reason my Rz project has never been finished. Im working for peanuts compared to the rest of the world. Times are hard, the boy need braces, the car needs repaired, the bike insurance is due, personal and school taxes are due and Im workin 40 hrs a week and just barely making a living. I haven't bought many toys lately, and my Rz motor needs a crank and pistons, about $500 dollars worth of parts. Nobody knows the troubles i'v seen, nobody knows my sorrow Edited August 4, 2004 by Meat Quote
XTShee Posted August 3, 2004 Author Report Posted August 3, 2004 Thanks for the replys guys, Just need to here back from my parts guy for a price now, I know where I can pick up a complete RZ for $1200 NZ tommorrow but it is totally road legal, registed and warranted so it would be a shame to rip it to bits. Hopefully this guy will get back to me about the bikes hes wreaking Also on to another guy about a cr500 engine that I may use instead it just depends on price though and who gets back to me first. J.J. Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 J, Im serious when I say Im broke..... and thats the only reason my Rz project has never been finished. Im working for peanuts compared to the rest of the world. $11.25 an hr. Hang in there Bro, I've also just gone through the braces thing, I'm pretty broke myself, working in a foreign country far away from my family and the toys, whole paycheck gets sent home for the wife and two daughters, nothing for myself. And the wife wants to know when I'm getting a raise I've always wanted an older 911 Porsche for track days, but that dream is slipping away in the distance... That's reality for you, maybe I can go mix concrete for the Clark boyz Quote
BenBB Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Right on XT, the RZ conversion would probably be the easiest, if you can get a good running motor complete with electricals you only gotta worry about 1) exhaust flanges (a muffler shop should be able to fab them cheap, it's just a 2-bolt flange with a short spigot that matches the OD of your pipes), 2) mounting a small battery, or using a battery eliminator (eliminators are all over ebay, I'm going the battery route with a very small 12V Interstate battery), 3) mounting the PV servo somewhere and 4) you may hafta dent the left pipe, depending on what brand you have, to clear the PV housing on the left cylinder. If you go the CR500 route locogato can hook you up I'm sure, his is damn nice, a very clean installation...just bear in mind you'll have to fab motor mounts and possibly a custom pipe. As far as where I'm at, Patriot Racing has my cylinders now...I sent them for a fresh bore & 795 pistons while I had a few bucks, and sent Dan a sponsorship request letter (I also sent 'em to a select few others, heh). Being the ultra-cool professional that he is, Dan is gonna sponsor me with free shop labor and his cost on parts, WOOHOO!!! So now he's working on the porting, gonna see if his cost on Twister and Crank Works for a long-rod crank w/TZ and max-load bearings is any less than TDR, and will work some magic on the RZ head when I get it together and can check the squish clearance. I'll get a 1-piece base gasket from Vito's and do the port matching myself with a little guidance from Dan the man. I've got all the electricals rounded up except a battery and a mount (thinking the inside rear of the airbox...my work is an Interstate dealer so the battery will be free), I already got the RZ gears backcut and have the RZ shift drum (with a boonman-modded shift star) and RZ forks ready to drop in the Banshee cases. I've got the RZ crank core ready to send off, and I've got the right size flanges for the exhaust, just need to measure the pipe ID when I pull them to have a local shop weld on the spigot. I still want some new TDR reeds, and ABM-Banshee just got us a sponsorship with Twin-Air, so I'd really like to try their setup but will need the whole mounting flange (totally different than my K&N & UMI adapter)...only thing is I REALLY need to get that PRM swingarm skidplate and chain guide or else I won't be able to run anything except TT. I had August off between races, but now it looks like instead of tearing down the motor I got my hands full with...women trouble heh. I know what you mean Meat, back-to-school time with clothes & shoes will cut a paycheck down damn quick, my son's summer off ends in a couple weeks. LOL J.J., "where's the raise?" it's like they're sharks, smell that blood in the water heh. Meat are you still gonna go with a stroker crank? I'm sure you got a core already but I'm gonna have an extra (the original Banshee crank), I'll PM you when I hear for sure what Dan can do on them...you might hafta become an official member of our team Wide Open Racing with some decals and get your butt out to a race once in a while but it might be worth it... XTShee Posted August 3, 2004 Author Report Posted August 3, 2004 Damn Ben sounds like your bke is gonna rip once it all comes together. thats good news with all the sponsor deals. The 500 engine fell through so I will more than likely be going the RZ route Whats back cutting the RZ gears do? I think I am pretty much gonna keep this bike with the RZ engine stock (famous last words). I already have too much $$$ in to my passion bike so I wanna keep that as my primary, this roller was just to good of a deal to pass up and seemed like a fun project. Gives my old man something to ride to instead of the wolvirine. Thinking I will also be running stock shee pipes on it god forbid, unless I pick up a good deal somewhere down the line Anyway cheers for the info brother Quote
Minkia38 Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 sorry - took me a while to see ths post! anyways - what they say is right - easy to put in wiring is hardest part exhasut flanges? you gotta make em up i just bought a set for $70 from SpecII i auctually have a extra set - i didnt know i had - $50 shipped and they are yours im or email with any questions - i was walked through it, and ill do the same to anyone else i took pics throughout entire install process.... Rocket pipes at PT pipes are the only pipes i know that clear the powervalves - you have to get one of those or cut or dent other pipes i used the rz tranny - 92 mph on stock gearing = Quote
Meat Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Meat are you still gonna go with a stroker crank? Nope. 7mm stroker crank for sale, taking all offers. Quote
