it's called a flywheel removal tool. it costs about $8, and without it, you can potentially damage shit. get it from your dealer, or maybe a bud has one.

get a nylon strap wrench for oil filters to hold the flywheel. I wouldn't recommend putting the bike in gear & holding the brakes as a method of stopping the crank from turning, You run the risk of twisting the crank out of true. Also like sredish said, get the correct puller!!

Yeah, i was thinking of getting the flywheel off.

 

To remove the nut, just use an impact. To put it back on, put your impact on the lowest setting and then just bump it on, and that should be just about right.

the strap wrench trick worked thanks guys now i have a new problem i got a adj plate that came with no directions to install i put in on the way the stock one came off i want to run 4 deg adv what do i line the lines on the plate with?

here's a pic of the case halves. the case half in the picture is 8 ticks from the top mark and i have it set to +4.

 

be sure that the coil pickup has the proper clearance. that seems to be a common issue as to not starting after replacing stator.
