GEARMADE Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 how do i get the flywheel nut off? the motor keeps turning over Quote
sredish Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 it's called a flywheel removal tool. it costs about $8, and without it, you can potentially damage shit. get it from your dealer, or maybe a bud has one. Quote
DIRTBIKEZ Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 You can try putting it into gear and using the rear brake while you loosen the nut, you need the puller to get it off the crank though. Quote
zilladude Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 (edited) get a nylon strap wrench for oil filters to hold the flywheel. I wouldn't recommend putting the bike in gear & holding the brakes as a method of stopping the crank from turning, You run the risk of twisting the crank out of true. Also like sredish said, get the correct puller!! Edited August 1, 2004 by zilladude Quote
GEARMADE Posted August 1, 2004 Author Report Posted August 1, 2004 i have the puller just cant get the nut off Quote
sredish Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 Yeah, i was thinking of getting the flywheel off. To remove the nut, just use an impact. To put it back on, put your impact on the lowest setting and then just bump it on, and that should be just about right. Quote
Oilsmoke Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 you can use a rag in the primary drive gear to hold the crack from turning. Cheap tool. But a strap wrench be best. Quote
GEARMADE Posted August 1, 2004 Author Report Posted August 1, 2004 the strap wrench trick worked thanks guys now i have a new problem i got a adj plate that came with no directions to install i put in on the way the stock one came off i want to run 4 deg adv what do i line the lines on the plate with? zilladude Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 the parting line between the case halves Quote
GEARMADE Posted August 1, 2004 Author Report Posted August 1, 2004 yeah thats what i thought but now it wont start Quote
sredish Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 (edited) here's a pic of the case halves. the case half in the picture is 8 ticks from the top mark and i have it set to +4. be sure that the coil pickup has the proper clearance. that seems to be a common issue as to not starting after replacing stator.
