I just installed my noss machine cylinder heads w/ 20cc domes, then it was running awesome for a while and really ripped but then all of a sudden just died. I looked at my sparkplugs before and they were just about perfect. Now after i installed the head they are a little blackish. I noticed when i checked to see if they had spark that it wouldnt spark but when i turn the handle bars itsparks. So my guess it's the electrical, or it may have to do with having a new head but i doubt thats the case. Also i checked the compression ands its around 170ish or so. Is this too high to run 94 octane or will i need some better shit??

You are 'on the edge' with that compression and 94 octane, and too much if the timing is advanced. I'd probably bump up the octane a little.

Im running 20cc domes with half race gas and half premium.

I wouldnt even think of doin it on 94 alone.

Hmmm well i dont know if i want to give up any compression because it really ripps now on the low end. Where can i get some race fuel?? Will octane booster from a gas station work till i get some high octane fuel or no?

No shit!

Definately man, I can imagine it being anything else...may be why your plugs look a little rich, did you dick with your jetting at all? YOu could either change out domes or go & get some race gas and at least mix it half/half...

Hmmm i guess ill just go with getting race fuel, only problem i have right now is where to get it. I figure its worth it to get more compression out of it and pay a little more since ill be racing mx. Hopefully i didnt do any engine damage all ready but it still has good compression so im not too worried ill just wait till i get some race fuel. Thanks for the suggestions.

I have had one of the wires from the key switch break inside the insulation before and kill the motor when I turn the bars. Straighten them back out and it would start and run just fine. Sounds like it might be your problem too.

I have run 170-175 pounds of compression in my Banshee for the last 15 years with no problems on 91-93 octane with the timing advanced 5 degrees. That doesn't mean you won't have problems, but many people don't.

My key switch aint mounted on the handle bars just the tether switch, i thought that could be the problem but then i cut the 2 wires and it still stalled. It stalls when i rev it up high then it just kinda dies, im not sure how the heck it happens but i guess tommorow ill figure it out when i have the energy to get off the couch.

more compression needs more octane - otherwise your engine will "ping" = loss of power = bad = rebuild me!

where to get race gas?

just go to ANY airport - local or big

they all sell Aviator Fuel - usually 100+ octane

works great, and not too expensive - mine here is about 2.60 a gallon, or 60 cents more than regular 87 gas

THats awesome because there is a local airport about 5 miles from here!!! thanks a lot for the help, i hope i can git r runnin right, i didnt hear any pinging so i dont think i had any detonation problems yet but i dont want to risk it.

iv been runnin 165 psi with 20cc domes for about a year now and I run 94 sunoco. I havent experienced any pinging yet. Iv ran it with +2 and +4 timing and still didnt get her to detonate. Im also ported so forget what I just said :P

Update, i just got race fuel and it still dies down. It seems to run real strong and revs nice but then when i rev it high a little it just kinda cuts out. So my guess is i frigged somethin with the electrical when i put the gas tank back on but went through and i dont see any shorts so this is starting to frustrate me. I just hope i can get the thing going by this weekend so i can ride. has anyone ever had it die on them after installing heads because im not sure if thats the cause or if its the electrical??
