cdcoxwell Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I have the T5's unpainted. They have a thick oil feel to'em. Do I need to clean'em w/mineral spirits or something before painting . Also, what type of paint to you guys suggest? I've been told PJ1 is a good high heat exhaust paint. Thx Cary Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 i'd spray em with a cleaner, then wipe it off, then scratch em up abit with some sand paper, as for paint, they have p1 that works good, make sure u get the 1500 degree shit, not the 500 cause that'll burn right off, and ur local hardware might have paint for woodstoves, its good for 1500 degree's and cheaper, denniskirk carries the paint, check under chemicals, good luck Quote
mrmatt Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Don't use mineral spirits. It will leave a slight oily film. I suggest using brake cleaner. Quote
racer Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 have you checked into ceramic coating? i painted my pipes and it looks good for a few sand trips then it need touch up. but if they were ceramic of high-heat powder coated that would be better. plus then you could try that new powder-chrome stuff. cdcoxwell Posted July 10, 2004 Author Report Posted July 10, 2004 Didn't know that was available. Thx, I will look into it. Cary Quote
cdcoxwell Posted July 10, 2004 Author Report Posted July 10, 2004 The ceramic thing made me curious. I'm looking at the can of HIGH HEAT I bought to paint my pipes and right and it states on the can HIGH HEAT with CERAMIC upto 1200 degrees. It's made by DUPLI-COLOR. I have two coats on her now, I'm going to buy another can and put a third on just incase. Thx, Cary Quote
