DaveVato Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 Howdy, at this point in time I am stationed overseas, but before I left I stripped my banshee and got the frame powder coated. I am going to try to describe the location of the bearing but I belive its the bearing for the stearing stem. There is a tool that I was told that I have to remove the hex shaped thing before I can even get to the bearing. Any help with finding the tool to remove that or any one that had done this before would be greatly appreciated. Also, at one time I saw a bearing kit on rockymountain, but I dont see it anymore, maybe i was seeing things. I am also going to need to replace all the bearings on my swingarm as I had that powdercoated as well. Thanks! Quote
J..J. Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 Yamaha Fork Damper Rod Holder - 30mm (Part No. YM-01327) Or you can use a 30mm Allan Key, or make your own tool if you have access to welding equipment, take a Metric Bolt, that is 30mm across flats (can't remember the thread size). Chop the head of the bolt of and weld a smaller nut to the centre of the hex piece. Quote
Meat Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 contact "cotton eyed joe", he makes a trick little lower steering stem bearing removal tool. Only charges a few bucks for the tool, but its a nice item to have in your toolbox. CEJ tools is basically what JJ described, but its sano and ready to use. Quote
locogato11283 Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 i just got a big bolt and used it. it fits tight enuf to turn it out. i took a big bolt and welded a nut on the other side of it so i could put a socket wrench on it. works great and didnt cost me shit. Quote

I will probably try to make my own, no since paying for one, but I will also contact cotton eye joe since at this moment I dont have access to a welder. I appreciate the advice, I am sure when I start putting this thing together I will need some more help. Cant wait to get home! Quote
Holyman Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 An american bolt with a 1-1/8 head will work and you can use a pipe wrench. Probably got that stuff just layin' around Quote
