cdcoxwell Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 Hey guys, I have my shee running finally and I have some mods such as: Lightened flywheel (boonman) Adjustable timing, Rickystatar (200w,set at +4) K&N air filter to fit stock After reading some of the threads on holes being burned in pistons got me thinking should there be some things I need to be doing different. Should I run higher octane than 93 I was told that I could wait on the rejetting b/c I'm getting pipes w/in the next several months. He said no sence in jetting twice in that short of time. Any info would be great and THX in advance. Cary Quote
cdcoxwell Posted May 28, 2004 Author Report Posted May 28, 2004 Oh yea . I use yamalube, what ratio Quote
Meat_Head Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 (edited) Most people using Yamalube run it at 32:1 and it seems to work pretty well, since you are changing your air filter you should keep an eye on your plugs just to make sure everything is allright. There is no need to run higher than 93 octane unless you are running a compression ratio that requires more than 93 wich aint the case here. ledofthezep Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 I'm still running the stock pistons and shizzle in my shee, it's a 97 and has been given 7 kinds of hell...always ran Castor927 mixed at 40:1 without any issues at all...topend still looks brand new. You'll be fine with 93 octane as long as you stay below 160lbs compression. Ride on! Quote
MULLET~BOY Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 i don't like yamalube seams to build up carbon in the exughst port i would run a synthetic oil at 50:1 Quote
splpete Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 I agree with you mullet about the yamalube. Is it nessicary to run that ratio with a synthetic say Klotz in your mind. I was thinking of using the same ratio 32:1, might I find a lil trouble in that? Scott Quote
Banshee~ Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 i run bel ray h1r at 32:1 it smells good how about some pipes and some good tires now? Quote
oldturtle Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I was told that I could wait on the rejetting b/c I'm getting pipes w/in the next several months. He said no sence in jetting twice in that short of time. What? Who said that? According to the HQ jetting FAQS, going to K&N requires up 4 to 6 sizes on main and up 1 on pilot and adjust air screw. Removing snorkle requires up 0 to 2 sizes on main. These recomendations could be conservative but you will need to rejet now and then again later when you install pipes. Or you could leave it parked. Am I missing something here? Help needed. Quote
cdcoxwell Posted May 29, 2004 Author Report Posted May 29, 2004 I have a friend that works at the steelership and he told me that I could wait on jetting since I was getting pipes in the next several months. You guys tell me what you think I should do, just because he works at the steelership doesn't mean he knows everything . Where I live just doesn't have alot of atv shops and the 4 wheelers that sale around here are for hunting, not ass kicking. Where might I find different types of 2 stroke oil . The steelership here only sales yamaha prods. Quote
