I just installed my cascade shift star today everything went smoothly however I have a question. All the teeth on the star are ground down but one. One of the teeth have not been touched and is the same length as a stock tooth. Is this normal?

I figured it out... The one that isnt grinded is first gear, since no one is going to shift from netrual to first under power it isnt neccessary to grind it down.

I accidently stepped on my shifter once from neutral to first with out the clutch. It went right in odd enough. It bucked a little and then died.

I'm a little more careful about it now.

Never heard of such things..... :whoa: From neutral to first is out of the neutral detent.... That is the lowest point on the star besiides the saddle in between gears.... I mod shift stars, and I have never heard of such things.... Got a pic?

Sounds like it is. Didn't think of that. However, when I put the star on the arbor, and turn it in the lathe, all the toofers get whacked down the precise same amount. Guaranteed to within .0005". That ought to be good enough for a shift star......

Ahhh...that makes sense. I was going to mill all tips down but I guess I will save some time and bit life and leave that one in tact. Can't wait to try it out. That and a new clutch basket it should shift like a honda??? (I can always hope)

clutch basket wont do anything..unless it was badly grooved. the shift start does help alot. I put a modded star, RZ shift fors and drums and cut gears in mine this summer and it still doesnt shft like a honda <_<

Basket was very grooved...17 years old. I already filed the grooves twice and am lucky I didn't break one or the fingers. I believe the basket was keeping it from shifting and the star was causing it to miss a shift? Either way I hope both issues are gone or at least a lot better.
