cdw Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 After 3 rides my fresh oil change is dirty and there is always tiny shavings, not shavings but more like that powder graphite lube if you know what I mean(very fine). Normal or not? And how often do you guys change your oil? Quote
H300F Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 The oil gets a gray color fast. I dont remember ever having particles in my oil. Are you still on the stock clutch? Quote
Nightrider Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I have an 01' and the oil comes out clear as it goes in.I change it every 2-3 hard rides.Probably more often then I should but I just because oil looks clean doesn't mean its still good, viscosity breakdown is not visible. My Cr500 on the other hand emits the same "graphite colored oil"that you are describing. After only one ride on a fresh oil change it starts to get that metallic look. Its been like that ever since I got it.Some say its from the separator plates, but who knows. After 2 years of riding the clutch is still in good shape and has alot of life left in it. I've heard other owners say the same about there 500's and none had clutch failures. I've tried different weights of oil and even tried the Honda racing oil for the 500,dooshed out the case and filled it up with the stuff.Still came out silvery. So I said F*ck it.If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
