BitchenBanshee Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 My cylinders are currently ported and run about 160 psi with the 19cc domes. I plan on running the 17cc domes. Anyone know if there is a problem with reliability with the higher compression. My crank is welded so that shouldn't be a problem. Just wondering if the pistons become weak with the higher compression. I will be running straight 110 octane.. Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 weld that crank! 17cc domes on a stock unwelded crank is asking for trouble Quote
thecabinboy Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I run 17cc domes in mine with C-12 fuel for about 3 years now. notta problem yet. I've never welded crank either but re-ring it everyyear just to be safe..Have heard that the higher compression is harder on the ring life dunno.. dude check those journals I bet you'll br surprised Quote
BitchenBanshee Posted March 19, 2004 Author Report Posted March 19, 2004 Ok, So I assume that the overall concensus is to go with it right? Quote
thecabinboy Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Yea sure change em' out. tick...tock...tick...tock... Dude let me put it this way; fact of it is unless you have the crankshaft that was touched by the hand of the banshee god himself at the factory it will not take that amount of pressure. When it happens look out cause its a bit more than just a bore and hone to fix. How long have you had those domes in? How many times have you taken it out? You or somebody really needs to crack those cases and check the crank and if you are very lucky spend the 80 bucks to true and weld it. Most probably you'll need a new crankshaft, try TDR they have a Hotrod crank for 415ish shipped and again get it trued and welded. Happy gernading, I mean motoring. Quote
BitchenBanshee Posted March 19, 2004 Author Report Posted March 19, 2004 I do have my crank welded!!! So it is ok since it is welded right?? Quote
thecabinboy Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Dude I am sorry I got the posts mixed up. Yes you will be fine to change your the domes just run enough octane to avoid detonation. And watch out for Wansomordis. Quote
Ducman Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Is there really that much benifit or noticeable HP in going from 19cc ot 17cc to make it worth it? Not trying to discourage, just want to know from someone who's done it. Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I've had them domes in since 01.. Since then I've re-ringed it everyyear. natta problem..I'll do a compression check tomorrow just to see what it is cranking out..There's one thing your doing that i aint.. I'm not reving it 12 grand and going wide open down a strip.. If that was the case then yes I could see welding it..Trinity said it was fine when I bought the head ..Then when I put on the National kit duncan said it wasn't neccessary..I never gave it any thought at the time but now as more and more BHQ members talk about it I can see where it would be like life Insurance I'm not saying your wrong I'm just not agreeing that it MUST be done.. It will probably be time to bore it to .020 at the end of this year so then I'll pay the 100 or so to have it done.also this bike doesn't get rode daily once or twice a month..If ya wanna see or post a pic I'll send it to ya..And since you wanna talk crap just because I don't have something that YOU think MUST be done You'd better have your tow rope so me gernade can pull your junk back (thecabinboy) new rings and good compression dont make a difference if the crank is going to split. Im telling ya dude spend the 80 buck to get it welded up or you WILL get a goat F-ing down the road.... Quote
thecabinboy Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 And since you wanna talk crap just because I don't have something that YOU think MUST be done You'd better have your tow rope so me gernade can pull your junk back (thecabinboy) Wansomordis, wow I though I was trying to be helpful and informative while being civil. Dont worry about me and my "junk" we will be OK. How about this, do what ever you want cause you are a big boy (kinda on the sensitive side though) who knows what best for yourself so please don't read any more. But to anyone else who is reading this and is not easily offended, the condition of your bore has nothing to do with the integrity of the crankshaft. The increase in pressure and rpms over stock will spread the journal and go out of phase because they are only pressed in true and weld or true and pin will eliminate crankshaft failure due to these conditions. And if I'm lying I'm dying. Quote
sweetshee4312 Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 dude if u liek spending a a big G on ur engine when that crank goes go for it Quote
geaux 4 it Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 You can run 17cc domes, but it's not that much noticable difference in power. It will free the motor up some if you already have a lot of compression. Quote
