thanks boonman, i think that is what happened then. I was wide open in sixth gear and pulled the clutch in and left it in while downshifting and that is when it happened. I never knew that is what caused it, so thanks for the help.

It's ok to hold it in, as long as you're in the right gear for the speed you're going. If you are in 6th, and downshift to 1st, but you're going fast still, the clutch spins too fast and heats that shaft and ball up.
