midnighttoker Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 i blew out my right side crankshaft bearing, and i was wondering if i am going to need a whole new crankshaft or just a new bearing. somebody was telling me that if the bearing blows then it bends the crank so is that shot too? is there a way to tell if i will need a new one through the top end without taking apart the bottom? yamaha350 Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 gotta take it apart. you will need to replace the rod to. it is easier to get a good used crank then to get yours rebuilt. and its cheaper. there are a million on ebay right now. Quote
PassionRE Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Check radial and thrust clearances on the rods(both sides). Check the inner bearings for roughness and noise, they are usually pretty tough. If all ck's well, weld and true the crank and replace outer bearings...Jim Quote
