I pulled my reeds out while replacing my cracked intake manifolds, and noticed the gap between the two petals. Is this gap acceptable? I was having a problem with bogging during acceleration, and am wondering if this is the cause. Both reed cages had this gap on one side of the cage I also noticed cracks in both of my intake manifolds at the equalizer tube, it does not appear that the cracks went all the way through the manifold. What would my engine have done with cracks in the intake manifolds? I have already ordered new UPP manifolds. I am just trying to figure out if this was my problem or not. Please look at the photos below.

Thanks,

The air was most likely the trouble... if it's not jetting. The reeds are fine. Just flip them over. To tell if reeds are good, you are suppose to measure the thickness but I don't have the number handy.

okay, I was hoping that the intake leak was the culprit. Just didn't know if it would cause the bog from about 0-1/2 throttle. The problem got gradually worse until it was missing like crazy. Hopefully the new intakes solve it.

If you were sucking air, you were lean. I would also do a compression check to make sure it's good. Running lean can cause some problems.
