Yes it can be tuff.You have to hold the shock push the top of the spring down until you can get the ring off of the top of the spring.The ring is held in place by the spring.

On the rear shock you have to compress the spring, and then slip a C-washer out.

 

On the stock fronts the bottom eye unscrews from the shock shaft.

Well, not if you have the right tools. In a pinch you can use a vise to compress the spring, and use several large zip ties to hold the spring compressed while you unscrew the eye from the shock shaft. This is very dangerous, and without enough very large zip ties the spring will snap back and either hurt you or at the very least scare the crap out of you!

 

If you have the option I would recommend having someone with the correct tools take it apart.
