J.D. Blackwell Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 I am going to look at an '02 this weekend and the guy didn't seem to know the important things to do for the Banshee for preventative maintenence. It is a 2 owner bike and he says it might have 80-100 hours on it. So I need to compression check the cylinders before I buy it. Can anyone help me determine which guage and fitting I need? Something that I can pick up at the parts store relatively cheap. Thanks for any help, Justin Quote
boonman Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Something that I can pick up at the parts store relatively cheap. This is something that you do not want to skimp out on the cost. It is the only way to determine the health of your shee motor without tearing it apart. Mine was well over $200. It is nice. See if you can borrow one from a mechanic friend. Then save up for one. Too often I see peps buy a cheap guage, and then later on down the road buy a new, better one. Start off on the right foot. Quote
erbilabuc Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 try an auto parts store, I bought mine for like 75$ Quote
J.D. Blackwell Posted January 16, 2004 Author Report Posted January 16, 2004 I just borrowed one from a buddy of mine. That will save me for now. What size hole is those things? 5/8"??? I got a 5/8" adapter and a 13/16" I believe. Justin Quote

J.D. Blackwell Posted January 19, 2004 Author Report Posted January 19, 2004 I went and looked at the Shee for sale yesterday. It is an '02 and is very clean. It has Pro Circuit pipes and has been jetted. That is all the mods except shock covers. It had oil coming out of the head pipe. I ask what ratio he mixed with and he said 4 gallons of gas to 1 quart of oil. What is that, like 16:1!!!! Way to much. The plugs were oily, but not as bad as you would think with 16:1. Also checked the compression after I rode it....118psi. on left side and 116psi. on right side. I don't no the elevation, but I am thinking under 1,000 ft for sure. I think I may go ahead and buy it, he said he would take $4,000 for it and besides the mixing problem, it is a VERY CLEAN bike. Also has 22x11/8 Skat Trak 8 paddle tires on Alum. wheels, helmet, and jersey to go with it. I don't care for the hard hit of the PC's, but I can always sell them and get some other pipes. Watcha think??? Quote
2001SSTBanshee Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 Too much oil in the mix is better than not enough. First thing Id do is repack silencers, they goata be all crudded out with that much oil. Quote
