Lumpster8488 Posted December 30, 2024 Report Posted December 30, 2024 I have 280 mains with the Toomey needle along with the full t6 exhaust and other mods that are appropriate for the size jetting. My spark plugs are the light brown that is wanted. Except my quad does good 1st through 3rd but from then on my medium to wide open throttle range is not doing well. It lacks and somewhat runs boggy and doesn't have any power. Again it's 280 main with the jet clip set at 4th bottom from the top. My Main question is should I drop the main jet one size to 270 and run my needle height rich or go up a jet size to 290 and slowly work my needle clip height leaner to get the best wide open throttle response? Jereme6655 Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 Wide open is going to be based on the main. But why did you switch to a different needle? And what are your “other” moods that are appropriate for the 280 jetting? Plus what temp and elevation are you trying this at? Quote
Lumpster8488 Posted January 3, 2025 Author Report Posted January 3, 2025 What I mean by appropriate mods are full exhaust, v'force 4 reed system, k&n style air filter pods with air box completely removed, as far as my temp it's usually between 89°f to 96°f and the elevation is 3,295' I'm hoping that my main jetting is still too high. I'm thinking that going down one size and working my way little by little towards leaner on my needle clip height will start showing improvement. Unless the elevation requires me too drop down more than 280? Quote
Jereme6655 Posted January 3, 2025 Report Posted January 3, 2025 Ahhh…..the airbox thing wasn’t in the first post…..which going to pods with no airbox will in fact require a jet change by itself. that jetting doesn’t seem TOO far off being 3200 ft. To be honest I’d probably throw the stock needles back in (no experience with the toomey ) and do a plug chop. What pilots are you running? Any slight bog off idle? Quote
