So the story goes:

I picked up a Banshee and did a half restoration on it. Did everything but split the cases. When I bought the bike it barely ran due to a blown head gasket but it shifted fine. I took the clutch cover off and replaced the eccentric and the shifter return spring as well as ground the shift star (shift star mod). Now I have it back together and running well. The problem is that it doesn’t want to shift from first to second, and it goes into neutral shifting down from second when I can get it in. I did notice some wear on the posts of the shift star, could my shifter pawl be trying to skip over them?

So, I went ahead and bought a new shift star and shift shaft. Problem solved. Shifter pawl was skipping over the posts on the star. Thanks for the help guys!
For me, it's easier finding neutral pushing from 2th gear.
