micorps1 Posted December 27, 2003 Report Posted December 27, 2003 Hey all well i figured since everyone else was sharing their embarrassing stories that I would join you all. About a year and half ago i was riding with my brother-in-law and brother who both have banshees in Northern MN at a hill all the locals call "Red Tit" It is named rightfully so because it is a huge iron ore hill full of jig rock. Well we were climbing the main runs no problem so i decide i was going to make a new run where no one else tried climbing. So i was pondering my thoughts and my brother told me not to try it, so that was enough for me, i fired up my shee and hit the hill in 3rd gear. I was climbing, but one problem was when i pulled the clutch in to early. I forgot to take into calculation the lip at the top and the steapness, the other other runs you could pull the clutch in a couple feet from the top and go over....well i went over back down the hill, i took two rolls with the machine then i got flung off like a sling shot and had the luxury of doing the gymnastic summersaults down the hill hitting my head on rocks the way down (I had a helmet on). So i finally stopped falling down the hill and was kind of laying there making sure everything moved, then i looked back up the hill i saw my banshee barrel rolling down the hill. It went right over the top of me again and it was getting about 10ft i between touches down the hill, my machine actually landed about 7 ft off the hill, i bent the frame, broke the tie rods, bent the A-arms, bent my FMF pipes, bent the handle bars around gas tank, bent the pull bars on front and back and couple other things i cant remember, my brother wnated to kick my ass because he works on my machine when i am away playing army ad was home on leave. Good they is we got it on the trailer and it started right up like nothing happened. So the next dy i put over 1000 dollars worth of parts on rush order because we had a big ride the next weekend, after endless hours of work and endless cases of beer, we had it back together. Lessons Learned: 1)Scope out the terrain dont jump into anything 2) Listen to your older brother, he is wiser 3) Never pull in the clutch early, apply some physics.....THANK YOU RED ORE hope your having fun on my snowmobile!
