2004LEBanshee Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 I just got a k&N and adaptor and I am going to cut the back of the lid. But I was wondering if anyone has cut the extra plastic part that is under the lid. This is the part that comes in from where the snorkle tube was. Quote
spoin39 Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 Usually you have to cut the inside out when using an adapter plate. I use the 2-stage foam filters and it won't clear if you don't cut it out. I used a cutting wheel on a dremel tool, It doesn't weaken the lid so go for it! It takes some time to do it clean though. Banchetta Posted December 22, 2003 Report Posted December 22, 2003 I just cut the end and not the underside...I only seen a 1/2 hp difference w/ a cut lid vs. no lid at all...There was a 4hp difference between a full lid and no lid.... Spoin: My K&N and flange fits w/ my lid w/ the underside still intacted..... Quote
BakoBanshee Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 hey Banchetta, currently I have Fatty's with the PD foam set-up, lid on with 260 mains. ( Everything else stock at sea level). What size mains should I start out at if I were to cut my lid AND switch to the PD K&N set-up? Thanks. Quote
spoin39 Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 I would say you're close, maybe a size or 2 up on the mains. The only time you have to cut the lid is with the 2-stage foam filters. Usually you only have to cut the tabs off the inside of the lid but I like to cut the whole thing out to get as much airflow as I can without removing the lid. I ride in a variety of conditions so I like to keep my lid on. Quote

I had to go up 2 main jets sizes w/ mine and I have midrange pipes...I would imagine the high revs might even like 3 sizes more.....I'd start w/ 290 mains and go from there. Better to start a little rich anyways.....Besides colder weather is setting in..... Quote
BansheeJerry Posted December 24, 2003 Report Posted December 24, 2003 I see me breaking out the dremmel tool tomorrow. Didnt even think to hog out the underside of the lid.. Learn something everyday Quote
BansheeBrian Posted December 24, 2003 Report Posted December 24, 2003 Good luck with your mission. You will notice a difference once your boxlid is cut and jetted. Get those airscrews just right and your on your way to much better throttle response and power throughout. Quote
