Nbert1197 Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 I recently tore my engine apart to replace my crank seals. I was wondering if I have to hone the cylinder because I removed it? And also, can I use the same rings or should I buy new ones? I'm new to this and just bought my banshee last year. 1 Quote
sleeper06 Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 Imo you should have the clearanced checked by a good machine or honing shop. Once he checks cylinder for trueness of bore and piston to cylinder clearance you can make your choice . If you don't have access to anything start with a fresh bore n new Pistons . It pays to get your crank trued n welded also Quote
trickedcarbine Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 Did you check what compression was before the tear down? Can you see a good cross hatch in the cylinder? Also, check the piston skirt area vs the top of the piston. There will be some taper, but figure out what pistons are in there and what the alowable collapse is. If all is well, definitely toss new rings in there at a minimum. Quote
sleeper06 Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 And new rings should always be installed with a home so rings can seat. I also like to put a crosshatch in the piston with some Emory to hold oil Quote
