Foam pods with pre filter

I've been running k&n pods and I just bolted on a pair of uni foam pods with outerwears, should a guy oil the foam filter still with the pre filter over it? Seems like it would only be beneficial but make a mess and clog the pre filter?

I had terrible luck with oiled foam filters. They clogged up in a few hours and the bike barely ran.

Yes you still oil the filter.  Just don't go crazy with the oil, spray and knead.   The foam will plug up in dusty environments.  So be prepared to clean it more often.
