I have ran this with set up for a couple hrs at a time with no problems. I just charge the battery once I'm home for the weekend or back at camp if I feel the need. No dc convertion

If you do the DC conversion you NEED to run a rectifier, you don't need to a run a battery but it's nice to have one.
