I have the Toomey 2:1 air filter setup and have been using metal wire to wrap around the Outerwears so the hot pipes don't burn holes in it. Problem is the Outerwears is getting saturated with filter oil really quickly since the wire presses it against the filter. Its completely covered/half clogged in sand dust in just a few rides.

I got some automotive heater hose (buy by the foot kind) and wrapped/hose clamped around the stinger portion that would burn the Outerwears.

QUESTION IS: Will automotive heater hose withstand the heat without melting onto ruining my crome stingers? I won't be able to know until T-Day in Glamis and that would suck to find out the hard way.

Probably not, but you could prolly find some hi-temp tape or heat shielding that would at an auto parts store. I got in a bind once and used hydraulic hose (wire reinforced) to replace the pipe to silencer clamps, it held up fairly well and didn't completely melt, but the inside got pretty soft...and that stuff is surely rated for higher temps than heater hose.

I saw exhaust repair tape at PepBoys but I don't want to put it on the chrome since it sets permanent. Header wrap would be nice but at $40 a roll it is kinda pricey.

BTW where do they sell that silicone hose that pipe manufactures use on pipes they sell?

If that fails, call summit or jegs performance. Heat tape, good up to 800 degrees C. If that doesn't do it then nothing will.
