Light bar

Ok so I bought a 14" led light bar, it's a tigers eye bar. Kinda cheap like $190ish. So I didn't want to do the dc conversion yet and just ran two 3300 mah rc car batteries together. To be honest, I'm not impressed. Doesn't seem very bright to me. Is it just not getting enough power? Or is the bar no good? Maybe save up for a rigid or something?

How many volts is the batteries your using ?

My buddy is usisng a lipo 4 cell 14.8v and his is bright.

Lipo batteries can be dangerous, I wouldn't personally like to sit above one if the voltage gets too low.

If you run a lipo battery for your light bar they make a lipo alarm that is small and compact you plug into the balance connection to make sure you never burn up a battery

^^^this, the other alternative is a life4po which is like a lipo but safer. Never buy a soft pack lipo either, it must be hard cased.

The batteries just aren't supplying the power it needs. I mean it's 5400 lumens it should be bright as shit, and it's dimmer than my stock yfz headlights

Run some wires from your car or truck battery to the light just to check the brightness.

So what voltage are those RC batteries supplying ??

A 2s lipo runs at 7.4v or 7.5v I think, you'll need a decent balance charger for lipos

It's not a lipo, it's nimh I believe? I honestly don't know the voltage off the top of my head. I soldered on a plug to the light bar to run to the batteries so I'll have to cut that and run it off my trucks battery... But I will be doing the dc conversion soon, how many of you run small motorcycle batteries?

You probably only have a 7.4v battery that's why its so dim. My buddy runs a 4 cell 14.8v on his light bar and looks identical to yours except its super bright

I use a ktm ytx5l-bs with a 2008 ktm 450 battery tray, that's your general style liquid filled battery.

 

I'm gonna change it for a ytx5l-bs lithium ion battery as they can take a better draw and they last a bit better.

 

Here's a picture of the setup I made, it hangs off of the bar underneath the radiator. And sits behind the bumper. The tray wasn't even $10 new, and the 2 pieces of angled Ali were free from work.
