Pepper Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Riding my banshee at the dunes today and starting having trouble down shifting a few times. Then I couldnt shift at all (this all happened in a matter of minutes.).When I come to a stop to check it out i see that all my tranny oil is draining from the case. The oil is draining fom a hole under my counter spocket,I looked at a friends banshee and there is no bolt in this hole but it looks like a plug is in it.Anyone know what the hell I did and how I can fix it.Thanks Quote
SDD Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 You have just welded your gears to the shfts they ride on. I don't know what hole your talking about but if you can take some pictures it would surely help. More importantly is your gears. Most likely you will have to buy a new set of gears to replace the set you have. You should start off by splitting the cases and making sure each gear (the ones that should spin freely) do still turn. SD4x4TRD had this happen to his motor just recently and he ended up buying a whole motor to replace the one he had. If your case isn't cracked you should be able to just replace the gears. Quote
Pepper Posted November 11, 2003 Author Report Posted November 11, 2003 Anyone know anything about this hole, its under the counter-sprocket,about 3/8 in diameter? Quote
Blacksmith Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 I think that this hole has something to do with the RZ motor. I know what you are talking about, but I would need to go look at my bike to tell you exactly how mine is sealed. I think that it has a pipe type plug, but it could be sealed with a freeze plug. Anyway, the hole is minor, check out the shift shaft adjustment and if it is ok, then go ahead and get those cases split. Good Luck. Quote
Pepper Posted November 11, 2003 Author Report Posted November 11, 2003 This sux,03 bike, and I had the shift star and shift kit installed when bike was a month old hoping that smoother tranny meant longer life.....Anyone know how long these trannies usually last and are there aftermaket trannies that are stronger?Prices stock or otherwise? Thanks for your help.. boonman Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 It's not a tranny problem. My '96 tranny is still going strong. I don't know what this hole is that you speak of, but I am sure someone will have some insight. I know there is the plastic piece that the shift drum buts up against. Also I believe there is a spot where the neutral indicator used to go on the old RZ bikes... Quote
ledofthezep Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 I know what 'hole' you're talking about. Sounds like you lost the little plastic cover...kinda triangular shaped...give me a sec & I'll find you the microfiche with it & the part number....mine's cracked & leaks a bit. Quote
ledofthezep Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Here ya go man....why it's with the electrical shat?...I dunno...but here it is, boon's right--it's the neutral switch assembly...#20 is the plastic piece & you'll also need the rubber washer(21). http://216.37.204.203/Yamaha_OEM/YamahaATV...e=13&A=115&B=38 the link won't take you to what I thought...you'll have to search for your banshee,...then choose the 'electrical 1' category & you'll see it. Ride on! Quote
