It can run without them, straight cut gears are for high hp applications. I run them in mine but I'm also making over 100hp. They help keep your crank from walking. So you don't "need" them as they are pretty expensive but it also doesn't hurt to run them for reliability. They do make a difference...just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.

The thing is. I do have the straight cuts and I have a 10mil cheetah as of now but would rather have something a little Easier on gas. So I figured I'd part out the 10mil cheetah for something a little smaller

Haha ya I do the same I just like free riding and layin the smack down on the occasional challenger (we don't have dunes around here) , I'm a hp nut so I make her as fast as possible. But I ran standard gears in my 4mill cheetah for awhile and never had a problem I didn't change to straight cut until this lasts rebuild.
