Removing The Clutch How Do You Hold It To Break

Hey all I dont havethe spanner wrench to hold the inner clutch while I break the nut loose to remove it . Any suggestion I dont want to damage the clutch outer housing .

If you have an old clutch fiber and steel you can screw them together with one screw. Set it in the clutch basket as if you were putting them in there for good. Put a wrag between the clutch gear and the crank gear. It worked perfect for me. I learned that from Meat's site... www.thebansheezone.com

no shit good idea I wish I didnt through away old clutch plates I will have to remember that .Anything else since I dont have any old plates :)thanks

That's how I do it, but putting it back on is a different story. Maybe a strap wrench somehow??? The basket may be in the way though. I'll try to think of something else. I'm sure someone will chime in with a good way.

hummmm but wont the inner clutch move with the air gun I need somthing to hold the inner clutch still when I try to turn nut .I have a air gun and all the tools at my garage but, I dont want to buy a clutch holding tool not since all I need is the plates . but for now I dont havethem and need alternative .I dont want to drag this engine down to local shop and ask them and since I totaled my truck yesterday I aint driving to far until I get my insurance check

Nope !!!! You hold it with your hand and the hammer in the gun will to the work.

cool I will give it a try when I get home today hahah I will probally be in work for a while today I dont have a ride so I have to wait toll the old lady gets out to give me a ride home

chase sorry to hear about your truck,but glad your ok! like someone said hold the cluch assembly with a rag+ put the impact to her,should come right off mine did.when you get it off look+see if the c clip that holds the idler gear in place is there.2 of my banshees have issues with that.have you or anyone else experienced that?

Like Ben said, Impact wrench. I use an electric impact. It goes back on the same way. It will be tight enough, Thats what the lock washer is for. I even ran it 1 weekend without the washer. I just threw some loctite on there and tightend her up.

I used the impact to put it back on as well. Worked fine. Impact gun is a great torque wrench. I even use it to torque down the head. Very precise. Just kidding on the head thing. But the clutch nut should be fine....

i took a steel bar from a hardware store, cut in in half and then bent the ends 90 degrees the just drilled them and put a bolt in...3 dollar clutch holder. I plan on putting 2 bolts on one handle to make it a flywheel holder too

I usually go with the clutch plates thing. Clamp some together with vice grips and then let the impact gun take the nut off. The inner basket spins without the plates to hold it in place. I'd try holding it with a rag but I'm sure I'd loose a finger some how!!

Thanks all I used the impact and a rag ad it worked great one of the screws underneath that holds the clip that hold the gears was snaped off so I removed old stub and got new bolt. I am going to go threw the whole bottom end and modify the shift star while I am there

I used the old clutch plate trick like fixitrod said it works great.And the impact wrench in the way to go.I tried to hold the basket and torque it to spec and I broke one of the fingers off the basket.I guess it was a good reason for me to order that new billet basket.
