drag port is always pipey. even on race gas or alky. It can "help" pick up the bottom end and roll on with timing, compression, domes etc... But dont expect it to be "broad"

 

(Note) there is one builder i know that can truly get broad power with a drag port. Im not sure about Redline. So ask him.

 you just contradicted yourself, I think. sometimes a drag port revs very fast making it seem like the power is very short and pipey. how broad the power band needs to be also has to do with your weight and what/where youre racing. a 300 ft flat drag setup with a light weight rider can get away with more duration and such than someone like loco who is racing uphill on a full weight bike. like always it all comes back to overall setup and intended use.
