To ring gap or not to ring gap, that is the question...

Rebuilding the top end of my banshee and I've heard with 2 strokes you don't have to worry about ring gap, even from major rebuilders / dealers.

I'm used to four strokes and always had to worry about ring gap.

Anybody who rebuilds these things all the time have an answer for me on it?

I almost always check it, but I've never had to file any rings. It's supposed to be a percentage of the bore.

I don't rebuild all the time, but the ones I have, I checked and they were fine.

I always check.. on the after market cylinders it is almost always fine, when I do my own stock cylinders I don't let them have as much clearance on the piston to wall so some times I need to file them

And if a piston came with the cylinder as a kit....the the piston fits fine.

 

If the piston came with a ring....then the ring fits fine.

 

Spark plugs are gapped perfect right out of the box.

 

The jetting on the bike you just bought must be fine because it worked for the last guy.
