is this it? The one they mention when rebuilding/tearing down your motor? When you are trying to hold everything and torque the nuts on?

I didnt use one on tear down and busted one the the bolt deals on my inner hub trying to hold it with a screw driver.. (yea.. real stupid I know)

Impact wrench makes it easy. Take the pressure plate off and leave the clutch pack in the hub. Press one finger on the pack to keep it together and then take the nut off or put it on. It's magic....no special tool is needed unless u just want to spend money.

^^ What he said^^^ Use an impact gun, easiest way to do it.... No damaged parts... Just don't  tighten the shit out of it when you tighten it.... Three small burps of the trigger, no more..

I broke it with an impact when I was removing it. I want to say that there was a reason I couldnt do the rag trick, but maybe not... Maybe the order I disassembled it? Either way Id like to use the right tool since I broke something the last time. Will this work?

Thats the tool I think they recommended in the manual.. would that one work better than the one in the link I posted?

 

I personally never used that one you posted but I'm sure it would work just fine. I prefer the other one though since you can use it to hold not only the clutch but flywheels and sprockets also... not to mention I've found a shit ton of other uses for it too.

I have the one you posted the ebay link for. I like it a lot. I use 1/2 of my handle from my Harbor Freight aluminum floor jack on the tool. It fits perfect for more leverage. It only fits Banshees, so if you're going to be working on lots of different kinds of bikes, buy the vicegrip kind. I've never used the vicegrip kind, but lots of people do. For disassembly, I do as mentioned above. Push on the clutch pack and buzz the nut off with an impact.

This^^^^^ and electric impact FTW. As many times as I've done this I still find myself pulling the clutch pack out, then having to put it back in to do this. Blue lock tight on install and don't worry about bending the tab on the keeper if its broke off.

Turn the impact down to lowest setting. Let the impact action do the work when taking it off. If you want accurate torque on nut, use the clutch holding tool. BUT I would think a few hits of the trigger using impact wrench is the best way... I noticed the clutch tool likes to gouge or mar the soft aluminum.

Off with impact, on with impact and blue locktite. Dont be a dumbass and you wont have a issue. A 3/4 impact at full blast probably will not work..... I always use my badass 1/2 electric makita, never had a issue.
