shift selector shaft(stuck in 2nd and 3rd only)

There seems to be play side to side and the fingers came off the star and got bunched up. Figured that out but why is there play is there supposed to be a c clip on the shift lever side or just snug the lever up to the stator cover. Thanks

Shift star claw is jammed or cocked

Because the shaft with the claw moves side to side. Trying to figure out if the lever is supposed to snug to the stator cover or am I missing a c clip or something

The white bushing (pink arrow) hit the case and the end of the shaft (blue arrow) hit the cover. You can use a straight edge across the opening with the cover off to check it. Make sure the pawl isn't sloppy on the pivot.
