97sheeban Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 how do i properly break in my freshly rebuilt motor? any suggestions? Quote
possum Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 warm up 3 times and let cool inbetween each warm up. Then drain all fluids and refill. Then change plugs, as well as replace filters just to make sure everything is good. Then put around in 1st gear only then shut down till next day. Then ride in 1st and second and dhut down till next day. Then do that everyday till you rode through all 6 gears then change all fluids again. Now its properly broken in. Quote

But I'll go the extra mile and tear down the motor again and check all clearances to really make sure I'm okay. It won't hurt to collect some oil and send it to a lab and check its contents. They tell you if it's broken down, how much contamination there is, and if its really what you want in your motor. Quote
sheerider11 Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 But this is always a issue between people on who is right and who is wrong. There's a million answers on how to break in a motor. Some have a ritual on how to do, others come out of the shop 2 wheels in the sky. I personally go more with the second route, I ride it and just listen for any odd noises. I'll stop make sure shits tight, then I'm off. Quote
dirtydownunder Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 point the bike in north direction, swing a crucifix on a gold 18 carrot chain, clock wise 3 times, counter clockwise 7 times (just infront of the grill), put one leg in then one leg out, then shake it all about. then do any of the above comment techniques. bike is ran in. 1 Quote
tdod101 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 lol! Hilarious! Mix your gas a little richer than normal, ride it like you normally would but don't hold down WOT for more than a second or two, change your oil after every ride, clean your filters after every ride as well. Do this for 4 or 5 rides and your good to go, than change your gas mix to what ever you were usin before. It's not hard, just don't rape it right out of the gate! Quote
97sheeban Posted May 14, 2013 Author Report Posted May 14, 2013 Thanks for all the advice guys its really helpful... (some for a good laugh) now im having a problem with my carbs i think they might be out of sync any advice there? Quote
Finch Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 Weird I bolt it together warm it up let it cool tourqe head and cyls then just ride the piss out of it then change oil when I get home. I wouldn't change oil ratio to richen it up if ya do rejet when ya go back to normal mixing. Quote
