Compression, smoke, ect.

Recommended Posts

so first off i did a topend rebuild and once i started it up, it smoked a lot and burned oil. so i split the cases and replaced all the seals. one of the crank seals was the problem because it was damaged. so i thought this would correct the problem but i guess it didnt. after putting the new seals in and starting it up, it smokes a little bit, barely so i think its okay. but the compression is only at 100psi. and my elevation is 470ft. also when i try to start it, sometimes it will start first kick, then another time it could take over 30 kicks.  another thing is after replacing the seals, i reused the metal head gasket. could that be my problem? could reusing that cause the problems i am having? i would appreciate any advice or info, thanks everyone

Okay. So you used all the new gaskets and all that good stuff. Good catch on the crank seal. Now did you use yamabond or equivalent to re-seal the cases? You went across the back of the crank connecting the 2 sides? The plugs on the bottom of the cylinders aren't leaking? Were you able to tell if it was coolant or oil?

i did use equivalent to re seal the cases and yes i went across the back of the crank,  i watched jlsparky7's videos on youtube. he has many banshee videos. and what do you mean by the plugs on the bottom of the cylinders? nothing is leaking on the cylinders.

Do a leak down test. Yeah the jug gasket.

Is your compression tester up to par?

I can understand having to kick the hell out of it with 100 psi. But you say sometimes it'll fire fist kick cold. Then once it warms up it gets difficult. To me that sounds like an electrical issue. If you can, do a leak down test. Double check your compression readings agains another tester.
