Finch Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Well finally fired the bike on some methanol last night and the left cyl is not firing. Its getting fuel and spark. I am going to clean the carbs real good and swap sides and see if that changes anything. swapping plug wires didnt help or diff plugs so looking to see if any of you have any other suggestions. piston still looks like new and plug does also just a lil wet. Abe Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 i would swap the whole carb over and see if it follows Quote
Finch Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 ya thats what i was gonna do first thing Quote
wfobasheeboy Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 When you have the carbs off check the reeds see if the L/S is sealing. Quote
troyzstang Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 May want to use dedicated plugs. One set for alky and another for purge. I'm sure you already know that though Troy Quote
Finch Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 Is it worth checking anything else? Stator Quote
Abe Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 yeah for loose screws between your right ear and your left, thought you had already tested the stator ? Just my guess there is still something wrong even with a weak stator that will only fire one cylinder you should still be able to get the left cylinder running by leaving the wire off of the right side. n2otoofast4u Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Start it, pull the cable up on the top of the carb on the side thats not firing and see if it picks up. If no change, double check that the needles(metering rods) are infact in the right direction. Next, with the filter removed hit it with some starting fluid and see if it picks up. Report back Quote
Finch Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 I tested stator before assembly last year abe. Quote
Abe Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Did you ever try swapping carbs and did you further inspect the reeds, All the smarter banshee folks seem to think my previous post is wrong but just seems there should be a way to make the left cylinder have the least resistance and fire if the right side is capable of firing unless they're other problems Quote
Finch Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 So tried greens method started it gave it a blast of ether and it started firing and now the stater is read 20 ohms Quote
Abe Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 shit fire piss on the matches i may be redeemed lol , i know when checking my stuff it really hard to get an accurate reading from those bullet connectors Quote
Finch Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 i dunno still has me concerned my stator on my vstar did the same thing last year one day it would work and test fine next day it wouldnt luckily it was under warranty still Quote
Finch Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 dont see why it needed ether for it to fire and ive just been messin with it on gas today. Quote
