badlarry Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 My motor was rebuilt and put back in my bike w/ the same carb/exhaust set up as before the rebuild. It was running too rich w/ the lid on the air box, too lean w/o it. It revved much more freely w/o it. So I got info from you guys and was told to go to 320 - 360 mains. I went to 330's still too lean in the midrange. I called Vito's because my motor has alot of their parts in it. The guy told me that the needle was too lean and sold me a jet kit w/ new needles, and pilots, and mains 290 - 300's they claim this will flow plenty of fuel for a non ported motor. I put the 300's in and the needle on the 3rd groove. O.K. Then I moved the needle to the 4th groove,.... better. It felt rich in the 3/4 to w/o throttle and I was going to lean it out to the 290 but I didn'nt. Fifth gear it pulled harder at 1/2 to 3/4 than it did at w/o. sixth mostly bog.....sound rich right???????????? While motoring in fifth I felt a sudden power drop off, pulled over and the bike quit. Pulled the plugs.................... the right side had 1/2 an electrode, and 1/2 a ceramic but no metal on the plug associated w/ a melt down. the left one just looked too lean..grey. Needless to say I'm fucking pissed. Now I have to tear down a motor I paid alot of money for and do myself what I paid "profressionals" to do already. When done I will DEFINATELY need jetting help! fixitrod Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 You might be sucking air somewhere. Have you done a leakdown test?? Quote
shee screams Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 I seem to be having simular problems myself after a rebuild! I better get some jetting help before I do the same thing! Quote
99Red_Roostr Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 I thought I was rich after a rebuild and some mods (vetos SS) , but after finally getting through a long break in and finding a few bugs ( needles not same on both sides) . Turns out I was leanall along ( but not for very long, or ridden hard ). I think it takes a while to burn off the oil from the rebuild before getting good readings on the plugs. Leave it rich till quite a few tank fulls, then start to dial it in a little at a time. 2c 99rr Quote
