petenorth Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 My transmission is giving me trouble shifting into fourth gear. Trail riding it does great. When you are racing it, it's about a 60/40 chance it will not shift into 4th. It is like it is not there. You have to wait it seems about 2 seconds then it will shift into it fine.It does not do this every time you race it though. Clutches are fairly new also. This is the only gear that is a problem. Any help would be great. Thanks Quote
bansheeboie Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 change ur oil on a regular basis? shaft is adjusted proberly? shift star in good shape? Quote
nastyracing Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Properly adjusted clutch .... Like said above. Also a stretched clutch cable I have seen hinders shifting . I change the cable every 20 rides with oem only cables. But that falls into a properly adjusted clutch categories Quote
Jereme6655 Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 like said above make sure things are all adjusted properly. also make sure your eccentric screw is adjusted correctly. do you have any shift/trans mods don't at all? Quote
petenorth Posted January 3, 2013 Author Report Posted January 3, 2013 Oil is changed regular, shift star appears in good shape with clutch adj properly with eccentric screw. No mods done to trans. I need a new cable due to its getting a tad stiff, but it's not stretched unusable. The 4th gear only part is what I'm not getting. Quote
petenorth Posted January 3, 2013 Author Report Posted January 3, 2013 Third works perfect. The shift lever will come up when you shift to fourth, but it will not engage that gear sometimes. Quote
crazycracker520 Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 4th gear hump on shift drum is getting worn! Does it feel like it goes to a false neutral? If so your gna have to split and inspect the drum. This happened to my friend on both his 250r and banshee. On the banshee he ignored it and the shift drum broke in half, destroyed entire trans! crazycracker Quote
petenorth Posted January 3, 2013 Author Report Posted January 3, 2013 Not sure what you mean by false neutral. If you shift to fourth, it will not go in it. It just stays in 3rd. Quote
crazycracker520 Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Well like it is in between a gear. If you shift again does it go to fourth or fifth? crazycracker Quote
camatv Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 the banshee transmsiion has a couple of problems when you start to get higher than 45hp. the added stress makes the gears bang into its self along with some bad design flaws in the actual shifting mecanisim. the more modern ratchet shift designs of more modern atv's/ dirt bikes along with more modern dog engagement designs have solved a lot of that. realignment, cable changes, oil changes etc are just basic maintenance. if you want to solve the real problems unfortunately you have to remove the trans from the cases... welp what about us 40year old technology banshee owners?? please PM me if you would like more information on the modifications i do. after the mods the stock trans seems to shift well under power up to and around 100-110 hp. Quote
petenorth Posted January 3, 2013 Author Report Posted January 3, 2013 No, it will not shift into anything if you keep upshifting. Only to 4th. Cam, I'll probably get in touch with you. You recently did some of my friends trans. Just wanting to make sure it's not something simpler. Quote
camatv Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 it wont shift to 5th and 6th? might be something jammed inside but usually when that happens its completely screwed... pull the clutch cover off and see if anything external to the trans is jacked up. if not plan on yanking it out. Quote
petenorth Posted January 3, 2013 Author Report Posted January 3, 2013 No , it will shift into 5th and 6th. I was referring to what cracker asked. Quote
