2strknewb Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 First off I am new to 2 strokes, just got a 99 banshee a month ago. It was bone stock minus a boost bottle, tors removed and the air box is gone. In it's place is a toomey air filter with an outerwears cover. Stock cylinders. Since then i have swapped the stock exhaust and replaced it with fmf fatty golds, powercore 2's..i also installed boyesen power reeds. I changed the main jet from 200 to 260. Air screw 2 turns out. I ride trails and live in Cincinnati, and have no idea what the elevation is. I haven't ridden it much but it starts on the 3rd kick, idles fine and smokes a little. My questions are I was told to run Klotz r 50 with premium gas at 40:1. Is this what would be recommended for my set up? Also I have read that I should lose the boost bottle..what does it do and should i keep it on, it runs fine with it. Brand new to this awesome site and would appreciate any info or input..thanks guys Quote
Nightmare Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 Theres an elevation finder on here somewhere. You'll be fine running 32:1. The boost bottle does nothing for performance imo and are known to crack intake boots. And welcome Quote
sheerider11 Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 I run 40:1 with klotz. A boost bottle is not necessary. Does it work, I don't know. I haven't seen anything to prove it does but nothing to prove it doesn't. The only thing is its heavy so it shakes a lot. The shaking rips the intakes. If you want to keep it, then by all means do that. Just keep an eye on the boots. Now back to the oil, klotz is a quality oil, so I don't think that its not doing its job. I use ST never had R50 available to me. But 32:1 and 40:1 are really close and 32:1 is the most common run ratio Quote
2strknewb Posted July 3, 2012 Author Report Posted July 3, 2012 you elevation is roughly 0-1000ft. i would suggets going a little bigger on the main jet, to like a 280-290 and maybe swapping in a bigger pilot like a 27.5. the r50 and premo gas is at 40:1 is what i run. and after reading this, i am willing to bet this was my old banshee. it is blue and you bought it off a guy named bill? 2strknewb Posted July 3, 2012 Author Report Posted July 3, 2012 i would suggest just posting any questions you have on here as you will get more answers. and here is a picture of the banshee when it was sold yep that's the one..will do, i just got registered to this site..it's a whole different experience than what i am used to..the raptors that i had were fast but felt top-heavy and not very nimble..i am getting used to it though,,love it..btw what's up with the painted front hubs and calipers? no worries just wondering Quote
2strknewb Posted July 3, 2012 Author Report Posted July 3, 2012 umm i guess the previous owner painted them to match the quad. we didn't do that. it is a looks thing. cool man, thanks alot.. amazing what just a few mods can do to these things. the new exhaust and reeds alone totally changed the powerband all over the place, especially the mid range..thanks again Quote
