erickson483 Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 So I'm swapping cases on my very first banshee. I'm putting it all together in the morning but have a couple questions. How much side to side play should there be in the piston rods? I don't have any up and down play but around <1mm play from left to right. Second question, what are some helpful tips when it comes to lubricating the trans or crank while assembling. To clarify, neither the crank nor any transmission shafts were disassembled. Seals are all new though, I'm only doing a case swap. Quote
Boston Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 i usually just rub what ever 2stroke oil on all the bearings on the crank and then seal em up. Quote
sheerider11 Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 In the trans I use atf or this stuff called assembly goo. On the crank I just do what was mentioned above. Sone 2 stroke oil to coat everything and you should be alright. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Might want to find the download manual for the spec on side clearance, IIRC it is far less than 1MM, hope your estimate is off. Don"t have my Clymers handy or I'd look it up. Quote
ticktock Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Couple is right grease the seals on inside sealing surface so they are lubricated. You can download the manual below. Adam Quote
erickson483 Posted April 13, 2012 Author Report Posted April 13, 2012 Now that im home I checked my clymer. Connecting rod side clearance is .25-.75mm new and side to side play at the top of the rod is .36-.98mm new. Looks like I'm ok. This crank is supposed to be fairly new but I wanted to make sure I didn't have to go 4 mil Quote
erickson483 Posted April 13, 2012 Author Report Posted April 13, 2012 Use some high temp grease or oil for seals? Quote
Hilarious Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Use some high temp grease or oil for seals? i used a high end wheel bearing grease, pack the inside of the seals. Quote
Jereme6655 Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 for gaskets i used prmatex copper gasket spray. its a copper adhesive type spray that dries on the gaskets and promotes sealing.... Quote
