bad01shee Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Hey guys I'm new here and heard this was the best place to be after buying a banshee so here I am. Just a couple quick questions. First i'll give you a quick background. I have an 01 banshee bought it not knowing what mods it had other than toomey t-5's and an extended axle. Bought it rode it blew it up. Smoked a ring, no big deal I knew buying a used bike I would encounter this problem. Well like any gear head I decide I'm going to try to make some more horsepower. I order a hemi head, 22cc domes, .080 over wiseco pistons (its a good thing i did becuase my motor was already .060 over), jet kit, and am having the machine shop do a full race port job. My number one question is: Will this whole new mean top end blow my crank up? The second question would be realistically what kind of horsepower numbers should iI be making with these modifications? Any help or guidance is much appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone Quote
Finch Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 most well say get your crank true and welded its a good idea. Quote
Sandfrk33 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 First off, welcome to the site. Lots of good info on here, so get ready to spend some $$$ It is always good insurance to get the crank welded, but with a stock stroke, low compression motor, its up to you. I think a well set up motor like yours will be around 50-60hp depending on the porting. For future upgrades, you might want to look into a few other parts. Pancake bearing clutch adjuster, billet impeller, timing plate, reeds. The list will go on and on. Most of what I just mentioned is good for a reliable motor Quote
Bkm2006 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Should of went with a site sponsor for the porting, and yes have ur crank trued and welded. Also think about a billet water impeller, and shift shaft mod! Call up a site sponsor they will hook u up! Dune ported stock stroke set up right, from what i have been seeing is somewhere in the 55 60 hp range Quote
SheeManWomenHater Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 if i were you i'd buy new jugs. cause if your gonna spend the money to port them, and they're already .60, they don't have much life left in them... then you'll have to get them re-sleeved. just a thought. Quote
bad01shee Posted March 1, 2012 Author Report Posted March 1, 2012 You guys are great. I really appreciate the info. I'm sure ill have more questions along the road and I will definately be right back here to ask. Thank you again Quote
sidewayz Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Welcome to the site. Im going through the same thing now. Got my first banshee and opened it up for safe being.... Wow! You never know what youll get. Just dont cut any corners on parts. Bearings, seals, are so important! these guys on this site know there stuff. The site sponsorswill steer you in the rite direction. Also look for parts in the for sale section. Most guys have a bunch of parts to help you out. Quote
bad01shee Posted March 1, 2012 Author Report Posted March 1, 2012 No doubt man, I've bought everything through vitos performance, I've cut zero corners, went wayyyyyyyy past my budget, but I'm building a solid foundation to a strong motor. So we will see how it goes. Great to know I have a bunch of good guys with plenty of knowledge and experience that have my back. Thanks guys Quote
sidewayz Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Ive learned not to put bansheeand budget in the same sentance lol. Im way over budget on mine but itll be worth it in the end. Quote
bad01shee Posted March 1, 2012 Author Report Posted March 1, 2012 You got that right. I expect mine to be a freak for being as mildly built as it is. I'm anxious to see how it performs against the 450r's raptor 700's and god knows id love to race a quadzilla Quote
