bigboybanshee Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Once i evened the turns on my air/fuel screws it still didnt correct my problem. Right side is still warming up like usual and left side is still pretty much cold. This thing is really getting on my nerves. Sometimes it will actually look as if the left side isnt doing anything at all. I switched the plug wires and it still did the same thing on the same side, so I'm assuming that eliminates the possibility of an electrical problem. I pulled the reeds yesterday afternoon and they looked brand new, didn't notice any wear what so ever. When I was in the carb, the ONLY thing I didnt check and clean was the pilot jets. I didnt pull them because I didn't have a flathead small enough to get down in there. Gonna try to get in there right now. Cant do a compression test or a leakdown because I dont have the tools. I should have a compression guage here shortly though, ordered one last night...and I'm going to try and put together a leak down tester soon. When I synced the carbs I did it by eye, the slides are moving at the exact same time and all the adjustments are the same(other than if something is weird with the pilots of course). I hope I can get this figured out and it's something simple...It's really starting to piss me off.....Well, about to go take everything apart again. Before going too far, try this just for shits and giggles. On the left carburetor, adjust and raise the slide slightly (while the bike is running) and see if that corrects the issue. I cannot stress how many times I have adjusted my carbs by eye and they looked right, but were still off. It doesn't take much at all to cause the cylinders to be off. The carb sync tool I bought proved to me that even though they appear to be in sync, they can still be off. Quote
Hellacious Posted March 1, 2012 Author Report Posted March 1, 2012 I've got the carbs off at the moment checking things. When I get everything back together, I'll do that. Quote
Hellacious Posted March 1, 2012 Author Report Posted March 1, 2012 Ok tried adjusting that side with the bike running, same deal. It almost seems like it isnt running on that side. When I put my hand over the pipe all I feel is cold air, and I'm not seeing any smoke....It's hard to say for sure, but it doesnt even seem to sound like its running on the left side? I dont know what in the hell man. I sat out there and fucked with for like an hour, no change. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Dumb question, but are you sure that carb is getting fuel from the tank? Otherwise... Time to check compression. Quote
beez33 Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Your compression is low. Time for a rebuild. Quote
Hellacious Posted March 7, 2012 Author Report Posted March 7, 2012 Ok. Got the new 27.5 jets in and installed and just ran the bike. Believe it or not, but the bike is smoking out of the other side again pretty much like normal. But the damn right side is still heating up ALOT quicker than the left. Ordered a compression guage the other day and i picked it up this morning too. I just got done running the bike so after it cools down gonna check the compression just to see where it's at. Quote
MadDog488 Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Sorry to jump in but mine was doing the same thing and i found it to be a crack in the intake boot itself. So my right side was running lean and it was just a small crack in it. Good luck to ya. Quote
Hellacious Posted March 7, 2012 Author Report Posted March 7, 2012 I glanced over the boots and they seem to be fine. I guess I should take them off and give them a thorough inspection. Quote
Hellacious Posted March 7, 2012 Author Report Posted March 7, 2012 Ok, just finished checking the compression. I checked with the engine cold and held the throttle wide open. On the left cylinder I got dead on 120 lbs. The right cylinder read about 122lbs. Should they read even or is about 2 pounds difference ok? Is that where I should be compression wise, or did the previous owner shoot me a line of shit? Quote
