But what about the ball joints? and my main question is if I do the A-arm conversion do I have to change it as often at the j-arms (bushings and ball joints)

I have a j-arm bike and ride the shit out of it in the sand. No issues, stock ball joints were still fine when I bought it 3 years ago and mine is an 89. The bushings are cheap unless you buy the brass ones like phelps said, but they last longer. Sure hope you picked that frame up. Just forget about a arm bikes, j-arms are way better ha ha.

I had a J arm frame years ago. When I went through the bike I replaced the bushing in the front end with needle bearings. I rode it for 3 or 4 years and never had to replace any of them. Never had trouble out of the stock ball joints.
