purpbanshee Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 I see lots of people talking about boost bottles. People telling people that they are junk. Not to use them. No you won’t see a big power gain. But all the little things add up. And a boost bottle is more about making the engine more efficient with smother throttle response All 2 stroke engines without a reed valve will end up forcing mixture back into the carburetor during part of piston's cycle. Since this mixture will be sucked back into the engine during the next cycle this fuel is not lost, but since it passed the carburetors needle twice (or even three times) this mixture will contain far too much fuel to burn correctly. The rich condition which results from this is very minor and will not damage the engine or foul a plug, but it will decrease the performance of the engine slightly. A boost bottle is supposed to fix this problem by catching some of the mixture backwash of the engine before it makes it to the carburetor’s needle and then release it during the next cycle. By ensuring a consistent mixture ratio, the boost bottle should improve performance and fuel economy Quote
So Cal Suspension Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 All 2 stroke engines without a reed valve will end up forcing mixture back into the carburetor during part of piston's cycle. Banshee's have reed valves. Quote
Phelps Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 so how exactly is the fuel and air sucked into the bottle? and if the same amount of vacuum is always applied to the carb how do you save fuel? you realize how fast a reed is closed once the piston reverses direction? oh and it's (does) Quote
donkeypuncher Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 The pro's (yet to see proof of any) of running a boost bottle don't outweigh the con's. I'd rather run a stock cross-over tube then a boost bottle and risk cracking my intake boots and melt a piston because of an air leak. Besides, what a boost bottle is supposed to do and what it actually does are 2 different things. In fact, I know alba racing dyno tested a boost bottle and they saw a loss of a couple hp. Quote
guns4children Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 Don't listen to these guys they don't know what they're talking about. I just got new intakes so I can't use my boost bottle anymore and I'm bummed. Its a white brothers bottle and its one of the best ever made. Ill sell it to you for 15 shipped just to help a BHQ member out. Just pm me. Quote
escobar Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 a booster bottle came on my banshee I traded for, is this something I should take off? I was wondering what it does. If I do remove it, can I just run a hose from a hardware store or something? Quote
Nieskes Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 From how do I go 100mph to this? Quote
From Mild TO Wild! Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 I'm just happy its readable this time. I've never ran one and never will. Rode a couple 2 Strokes with boost bottles, all it does is add another variable to the tuning factor. I never felt any performance gain. I always felt good telling buddies, "You spent how much on this boost bottle?" "$100." "It sure was a good buy wasn't it?" Quote
thomas h. Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 I talked to the alba racing dyno tech and he show me the dyno runs befor and after removing the boost bottle. 2 horse power drop with the boost bottle installed. He said it slows to vacuums pulling effect of the pistons. Also tearing boots is a known issue. Quote
purpbanshee Posted November 26, 2011 Author Report Posted November 26, 2011 Well if it robs hp it’s gone. I will get an intake I guess. Thanks for the info Quote
Nieskes Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 the boost bottle should improve performance and fuel economy ??? Not according to what you said. Quote
Buckwheat Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 ??? Not according to what you said. Dude, he said he was ditching it. Cut him just a little slack. Have you ever been wrong before? I was once. Wheat Quote
Larry's Shee Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 All I did was take the boot to hardware and found a pvc cap that fit in the hole, 3bond + hose clamp , done. When I get new boots I'll get the ones without nipples. Quote
camatv Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 wow all this and the therory isnt even right in this thread.. i can write the exact words out of the so called 2 stroke "bible" and let you know what it says. OR try and explain it like this on a twin cylinder like these the boost bottle transfers the back pulse after the reed closes and blows it over to the other side.. i dont like boost bottles because they do a bunch of differnt things, they add cc to the lower end of the motor and cause issues, they dilute the signal off of the motor and dilute the pulse pull coming from the pipe ( if its working right). they just screw with all kinds of things.. kinda like big ass intakes and reed spacers. whats intersting to me is in that same book there are paragraphs about keeping the cc of the lower end low and keeping the space between the carb and the piston as short as possible. then they talk about boost bottles and their apropriate cc range. they may work kindaish on a low hp motor or a lower cc twin that has some other kind of bs problem from the 1970's.. i mean back then it was a feat to get 15hp from a 125cc motor. now adays they make in the 35-40hp range..
