mpd579 Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 4 mil questions…please help I just bought a 02 Shee with T5, 34mm carbs, K&N, a few other little things. Looking at going with a 4 mil crank and port job. Adding a cool head with 20 or 21 mm domes. Bike has a new top end (5 hrs or less). If I get the 110mm crank do I have to swap pistons? I know I’ll have to with the long rod crank…what are to pros and cons of the “long vs short”? Far has the port I’m just going to call up whomever I choose (yes looking at people that support this site) tell them to details of my set up. Will be doing some riding in the woods most of the time and will make a few trips to the dunes a year. I can’t ride every weekend looking like I’ll be riding about once a month year round. Also from what I’ve read I’ll need to Adv +4 timing. Set up should be a very good bang for the buck, have a little better low end and great mid power. I think the 20 or 21 will give good compression numbers (we have 93 gas) I can get 100LL (av gas) in town or if I need 110 its about 15 mins away. I’m fine with using pump gas unless I need to go to race gas for some reason. Thanks for the help, this is my 1st Banshee. Had a CRF250R and a 660 Raptor on a “Shee” now and I love her. Overlook me Im new, its late and I’ve been drinking a little. When I do my best work Quote
mpd579 Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 Also Hotrod or Vito crank? is one better Quote
Jereme6655 Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 okay......yes you'll have to swap out pistons.....gotta move the wrist pin down so the stroker pistons don't come up and kiss your head in a bad bad way. The difference between the rod lengths is played this way......stock is 110.....long rod is 115.......teh long rod doesn't have to move as much aroudn the wrist pin so it puts less side load on the pistons every time it goes around..... The other thing is that going to a +4 mil is gonna be fun.....but it can get expensive if you want to do it the right way.......alot of people neglect to realize you have to setup your bike better to handle the added power. To make it ride correctly.....depending on your likings....yoru gonnna also want to look into new suspension, longer swinger, good tires, etc, etc.... Quote
jlsparky7 Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 4 mil's are amazing. Nice over all power for any riding condition. You will need the 795 series wiseco pistons, might as well replace the trans bearings while you are in there. I have a full bottom end rebuild video series in the link in my signature. Torque specs and everything included if you are interested. Quote
SlowMoe Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Yeah pistons crank domes port work swingarm. You are looking at taking a good 1200 dollar step. You will have a badass setup, but do you really need 75 hp? And with that kind of hp comes more.missed shifts so you may as well do a duneable override if you plan on dragging. Honestly if you dont need to be extremely competitive in drag racing, I suggest you just send your jugs to get ported. That will be a huge bump in power and yiu may be satisgied with that. No splitting your cases upgrading your tranny and all that. My .02 Quote
SlowMoe Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 So cool bead OR send your stock head to get re chambered which will be more economical with better results than off the shelf cool head domes. Then a port job from someone like HJR(always treated me right). Lastly advanc your timing to the degree your porter recommends. If you ride alot of tight trails and you have ready access.to 100ll I would re chamber the stock head for that. This along with the advanced timing will give your bottom end a big bump and the port job will have you screaming in the midrange and up top. All for roughly 500bux. Quote
camatv Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 if the stockers bore is low id just have them set up properly to the 4 mill crank. if it was me i'd do it like this.. hotrods crank. welded. wiseco pistons and you will have to make sure your piston to wall clearance is good even with the new pistons. matton billet basket, stock trans mod, cool head with PROPER 21cc domes ( call NOSS) HD clutch kit. boyesen 2 stage reeds. thats a great lil budget combo and if the motor is set up right you will be able to hang with most servals.. not sure why you'd need to replace all the trans bearings if they are still good? i'm sure there will be some other do dads and items that are worn out inside that will need replaced. so add all that up $$$$ wise and then add 400 to that budget and if you have that amount go for it!
