bennny Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Well, i'm gonna be painting an old set of pipes for my atc 250r, and I had a question on how people do it on here. I know it's better to get them powdercoated, but the header is pretty beat up so I want to go the cheap route. Do you guys use a primer on them before painting? I want to have as glossy of a finish as I can, but am wondering exactly what paint people use and where they get it from? Is there a high temp primer out there? Any help is appreciated, thanks! Quote

I'm gonna strip and redo mine this winter I'm going to heat them up first, and after second coat with my heat gun (1200 degree). That way the sand don't stick to them the first time I take them out.... I'm hoping. Quote
Jereme6655 Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 dont know if you can get the finish to be glossy....... but ive used bbq paint on blueangels pipes and they're still holding on pretty good........painted them 2 years ago and still no flaking. you have to make sure you rough up the pipes so get the bbq high temp paint to adhere to the metal. ALSO make sure you wipe them down to remove any oil or grease just before you paint.... Quote
