KlotzBanshee Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 Like the title says, I pulled the carbs and pipes to do a leak down test. Now I would like to test the compression. Do I have to have the carbs and pipes installed to do a compression check? Thanks in advance. Ryan Quote
jayzx10r Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 While technically you can do it, why would you want to? What I mean is....compression tests should be run on a warm motor. To do it cold will not give an accurate representation of compression IMHO. Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted September 24, 2011 Author Report Posted September 24, 2011 Well, I'm trying to diagnose a pretty ugly sounding knock coming from my motor. I don't personally own my own compression gauge, but I do have a leak down test kit. I have a buddy with a compression gauge, but I got tired of waiting for him and started to try and figure out wtf is the deal. So I got a little ahead of myself. I'm just trying to cover the bases before I tear into her. It did pass the leak down test though... Quote
#1JUANstunna Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 A crack web coming apart will cause a knock also. Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted September 25, 2011 Author Report Posted September 25, 2011 I have a video to load up. But my computer took a shit, and all I have is my droid. New computer should be here on Tuesday, I'll try to post it then. Looks like I'll be working on the motor again this winter...dammit. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 A crack web coming apart will cause a knock also. What do you mean by "crack web" Quote
Glamis321 Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 I think he meant "crank web" Quote
Larry's Shee Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 That makes sense, thanks Quote
