Hey guys was wondering why some engine builders set up the rear low side transfer ports higher than the high side transfers?? Ive had tons of 4 mil cyls and see alot of it lately dont completly understand why this is done any answers are welcome, thanks mike

They do that for a reason. In the cylinder there is a lot going on its not all about durations. Theres loop scavenging , stuffing and trapping going on all trying to work properly with the pipe, dome , ignition , heat etc. Thats why some builders like different pipes and do things differently.

Those things done correctly are proven. Each pair of ports do something differently at different times to work correctly with the pipe. Believe it or not the higher pair or transfers will open sooner and have less case pressure and overall will flow with less velocity into the combustion chamber than the lower ones even tho its open earlier. You didn't say who ported it but my guess is that was purposeful and done correctly. I wouldn't sweat it at all or mess with it.

Thanks radar for reply, it was a set of fast cylinders , they wdrw ported for use of shear inframe pipes, does that mean with outta frame drags pipes wont work good on them cylinders now? Thanks bud!!!!!

Jeff's stock cylinders run very well and if it was setup for shearer inframe pipes I'd bet they will be fine. You might call him and see if he's want you to change anything switching pipes.

I run outta frames on 4mil fast cyl,he preferrs it for torque value and i felt a huge diffrence,i ran 11.5 at 108 in the 1/4 last weekend ,and i will get it in the 10s on stock cyl i have to work out some chassis tuning issues to get my 60fts down
